UVA Wise Women's Basketball Named to WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, Ranks Twelfth in Division II

ATLANTA – The UVA Wise women's basketball team has earned a place on the 2024-25 Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Academic Top 25 Honor Roll, which ranks the top 25 team grade point averages in the nation. UVA Wise came in at 12th nationally with a GPA of 3.763.

Teams having a 3.0 combined GPA and qualifying for consideration for the top 25 in their respective divisions are listed as special mentions.

The Highland Cavaliers' 3.763 GPA leads not only the South Atlantic Conference but the entire Southeast Region, which includes schools from the SAC, Peach Belt Conference, and Conference Carolinas. No other schools from the region are in the top 25, but Carson Newman (3.493), Shorter (3.425), Wingate (3.377), UNC Pembroke (3.372), Tusculum (3.283), Anderson (3.268), Emory & Henry (3.249) and Augusta (3.172) all made the Special Mention list.

UVA Wise made the Special Mention list in 2023-24.

This is the 30th season that the WBCA has released the honor roll.

The team will report to campus in a few weeks and will soon afterwards begin preparations for the 2025-26 campaign. They return a strong nucleus of eight players from last season, including two members of the SAC All-Freshman team, and will be joined by seven freshmen and two transfers.

The schedule features twelve home dates and includes a quick trip to Lynchburg for an exhibition contest against Liberty University on November 26. It will be first time the two teams (which were former conference opponents in the late 1970s) have met since November 21, 2011.

The team will kick off the season on Nov. 14-15 in the SAC vs. Peach Belt Conference Challenge in Bluffton, South Carolina, where they will take on Georgia Southwestern in the first game, followed the next day by a matchup against USC Beaufort. Both games will be at 7:30 p.m.
