Wingate Spoils Women's Basketball's Senior Day, 76-62

WISE – Wingate took the lead via a first quarter run and held off repeated comeback attempts by UVA Wise as the Bulldogs defeated the Highland Cavaliers 76-62 Saturday afternoon.

The team celebrated their Senior Day before the game and honored seniors Katlin Burger, Sable Burnside and Ines Latapia for their contributions to the program.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wingate came out shooting 69 percent in the first half and used a pair of runs to lead by 14 at the end of the first quarter.
- They extended the lead to 20 points and held that advantage for the majority of the second quarter, leading 40-18 at the half.
- The Cavs outscored Wingate by 10 in the third period, but were unable to cut the lead to less than 11. They cut it to nine points twice in the fourth, but the Bulldogs held on for the 76-62 victory.
- Five Bulldog players scored in double figures, led by Aniyah Oliver's 21 points.

GETTING WISE
- Sable Burnside put on a show for the home crowd one last time as she had 26 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks.
- Jalie Ruehling scored 10 points and had six rebounds, five assists, and a block.
- Ella Karst had six assists to lead the team and also had six rebounds as did fellow freshman Caroline Mullins.
- The Cavs did win the rebounding battle by a 43-40 margin.

UP NEXT
The team will be on the road for their final two games of the season as they travel to Tusculum Wednesday and Catawba next Saturday.
