WISE – Three track and field student-athletes (
Nia Rogers,
Alexsis Porter,
Olyvia Fleming) have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Team.
Rogers, a senior from Warrenton, Virginia, had the fourth best shot put throw in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region this past season in outdoor competition as she had a throw of 12.48 meters in the App State Open. She also placed twentieth in the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championship in discus with a throw of 36.10 meters and sixteenth in hammer (41.53m) at the King Invitational.
Fleming placed 25th in the hammer throw in the SAC Championship with a throw of 37.40m. The Kingsport, Tennessee, native also placed 31st in the discus (33.36m) in the discus and 47th in the shot put (10.01m) in the same meet.
Porter earned a place on the all-district team with her 18th place finish in the App State Open with a 39:54.25 finish in the 10,000 meters. The Grundy, Virginia, native also placed 41st in the 5,000 meter run in the Mountaineer Invitational.
The Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court/field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Nominees must be at least a sophomore with at a 3.5 grade point average or higher. They must also have played in a specific number of games/matches or started a specific number of games/matches. Some sports have extra criteria, like track and field nominees needing to win or place highly in the regional rankings. The number of nominees are limited within each respective sport and the at-large team (which comprises golf, lacrosse, beach volleyball, field hockey, and several other sports).
