ROCK HILL, SC – UVA Wise Track & Field Student-Athletes
Nia Rogers,
Lexi Carter, and
Jocie Aldrich have been named Indoor Athletes to Watch by the South Atlantic Conference Track & Field coaches in their preseason release. The women's team was also picked to finish tenth in the Preseason Poll.
Rogers, a graduate thrower from Warrenton, VA, is the lone senior/graduate student on the squad and has been a mainstay on the UVA Wise Track & Field team since it's inception. She owns the school indoor record for weight throw and has placed in the top ten in multiple shot put, hammer throw, weight throw, and discus events during her career.
Carter is a sophomore thrower from St. Paul, Virginia, who transferred to UVA Wise from East Tennessee State. She has already made her mark this season as she placed first in the shot put and second in the weight throw at the recent ASICS Get Your Marks Meet. Last year she won the Southern Conference in both the indoor and outdoor shot put events, becoming only the second athlete in ETSU history to do that.
Aldrich is a freshman jumper from St. Paul who placed third in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump in the recent Get Your Marks Meet. Last year at Eastside High School she won the VHSL State Class 1 Championship in triple jump with a new state record jump of 37' 5.5".
UVA Wise tied for tenth in the poll with Emory & Henry. Wingate topped the poll, with Lenoir-Rhyne coming in second. Catawba was third, followed by Tusculum.
The team will compete this Saturday at the Centre College First Chance Meet in Danville, Kentucky.
