WISE -- Both UVA Wise tennis teams fought hard and played Lincoln Memorial close, but in the end the Railsplitter tennis teams both prevailed by 4-0 scores Tuesday at the Jim & Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.

In men's doubles action, LMU won at the second flight by a 6-4 score and took the third flight 6-1. UVA Wise's Yi-Hsuan Chen and Chathurya Nilaweera were leading 4-3 in the first flight when LMU took the point, so their flight was halted.

In singles, Dmitrii Semenov was about to begin a third set in the second flight, Nilaweera was leading 7-5, 5-4 in the third flight, and Chen was up 6-3, 1-6, 2-1 in the fifth flight when the they had to halt play due to LMU taking the match. The Railsplitters won at #1, #4 and #6 to take the match win.
 
In women's play, the team was playing shorthanded, which meant that LMU opened the match with a 2-0 lead and a win at #3 doubles. Kinsey Knox and Abiela Wang won handily at the #2 flight, but the Railsplitters captured the first flight and took the doubles point.

That put LMU ahead 3-0 and they only needed to win one of the four remaining flights to take the match. That came at the fourth flight, negating a lead by Constanca Azinhaga at #1 and close matches at #2 by Lucy Cunliffe and #3 by Knox.

The tennis teams will host their final home match of the season tomorrow when Newberry makes the trip to Wise for a 12 p.m. women's / 2:30 p.m. men's doubleheader. They will close out the regular season this Saturday at Wingate.
