WISE - The UVA Wise tennis teams closed out the home portion of the 2024-25 season as they hosted Newberry in South Atlantic Conference matches Wednesday afternoon. The men won 4-1 and the women fell 4-0 to the Wolves.
In the men's match the Cavs took the doubles point as
Yi-Hsuan Chen and
Chathurya Nilaweera won at the first flight while
Miguel De Rueda and
Daniel Gonzalez Garza won at flight three to give UVA Wise the doubles point.
They then picked up wins by
Dmitrii Semenov at the second flight, Gonzalez Garza at flight four, and Chen won at #5.
The women were playing short-handed and the Wolves picked up wins at the second doubles and the fourth singles flights to take the match before any Cavalier player in one of the other flights could win a point.
The teams will close out the regular season Saturday at Wingate. The women will play at 11 a.m. and the men will follow at 1:30 p.m.
