WINGATE, NC – UVA Wise and #20 Wingate battled to a 4-4 tie at the end of the first quarter, but the Bulldogs then bit down defensively in the remaining time to take the 19-5 win over UVA Wise Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Wingate scored three minutes into the game,
Leslie Clay netted her ninth goal of the season a few minutes later to tie the game up. WU scored three goals over the next six minutes, but soon afterward
Kaylea Paterson found
Logen Davis twice for Davis' 18
th and 19
th goals of the year. With 37 seconds remaining,
Abby Stoffelen scored her eighth goal of the season and tied up the match at 4-4.
- The Bulldogs scored three more times in the second quarter before Stoffelen scored again off another assist by Paterson to cut the lead to 7-5. That score stood at the half.
- The second half was all Wingate as they scored seven goals in the third and five goals in the fourth to take the 19-5 victory.
- Nelida Watson led WU with five goals and an assist, while Kathryn McCabe won nine draws.
- Davis and Stoffelen led the Cavs with two goals each, while Paterson had three assists.
Taryn Moreno won four draws and
Chloe Huston grabbed three. Moreno and
Issie Brown led the team in ground balls with three, while Brown caused four turnovers.
