WISE - The UVA Wise men's tennis team earned their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season as they defeated Coker 4-1 Friday afternoon at the Jim & Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex. The women fell in their match vs. Coker by a 4-1 score.

It was the first win by UVA Wise over Coker since the Highland Cavaliers joined the SAC in 2020.

On the women's side they captured the doubles point with wins at the second and third flights. Christina Korakopoulou and Antonella Campodonico won at no. 2 7-5 while Amelia Monteith and Abiela Wang won at no. 3 6-3. The Cavs' Lucy Cunliffe and Constance Azinhage were also ahead in the first flight 6-5 when the point was won, so they did not finish. Coker then took four singles flights to take the match.

In men's action the Cobras took the doubles point with wins at the second and third flight.

In singles, the Cavs won four to take the match. At #2, Miguel De Rueda won 6-4, 6-1, and at #3 Chathurya Nilaweera won 6-2, 6-1. At the fifth flight Yi-Hsuan Chen won 6-4, 6-1, while at the sixth flight Vanja Vojinovic won 6-3, 6-0.

The Cavs will travel to Mars Hill for a Wednesday SAC match.
