SPARTANBURG, SC – The UVA Wise lacrosse team hit the road for the first time this season and ended up hitting the history books as
Issie Brown scored with less than a minute left to defeat Converse 9-8 and open the season at 4-0 for the first time in program history.
The previous best start had been 3-0 in the 2017 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Valkyries struck first with two goals in the first five minutes.
Logen Davis,
Kaylea Paterson and
Noley Hiller then gave the Cavs the lead. A late goal by Converse tied it up at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Caitlyn Schultz and Davis scored in the second quarter, bookended by a pair of Converse goals and the teams were tied at 5-5 at the half.
- UVA Wise scored twice in the third quarter as
Taylor Thompson and Paterson found the back of the net and the Cavs led 7-5 going into the final fifteen minutes.
- After Converse scored, Davis netted her third goal to maintain a two goal lead. The Valkyries tied it up with a pair of goals in the last five minutes, before Brown took the assist from Thompson and scored to give the Cavs their historic win.
- Three Converse players had two goals apiece, while Izzy Eby dished out four assists.
GETTING WISE

Logen Davis had her second straight hat trick in addition to two assists for five points. She now has 46 career goals and 48 career assists for 94 career points.
- Kaylea Patterson had two goals, while
Taylor Thompson each had a goal and assists.

Noley Hiller,
Caitlyn Schultz and
Issie Brown also added in a goal each.
Abby Stoffelen and
Parker Cribbs each dished out an assist.
- Stoffelen and
Taryn Moreno caused three turnovers apiece, while Brown and
Grace Golatt won three draws each.
- Goalie
Addie Donalson had six saves.
UP NEXT
The team returns to South Atlantic Conference play when they travel to Anderson for a Saturday meeting with the Trojans. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
