CHARLESTON, WV -- The UVA Wise men's tennis team travelled to Charleston, West Virginia over the weekend and picked up a pair of 5-2 wins against former Mountain East Conference foes Fairmont State and West Virginia State.
Against FSU, The Cavs claimed the doubles point, and then won at the 4-6 flights. At no. 4,
Chathurya Nilaweera won in straight sets, while Daniel Gonxalez Garza and
Vanja Vojinovic went to tiebreaker sets to claim their flights.
"I'm proud of how we fought today. Both men's and women's teams rebounded well after tough matches last week," said Coach
Alex Hunt. The consistency in our high level of competitiveness is something to be excited about."
In the match vs. WVSU, Nilaweera and Gonzalez Garza won in straight sets at the fourth and fifth flights.
Dmitrii Semenov claimed a three-set win at the first flight, and Vojinovic went to three sets for the second day in a row to claim the win at no. 6.
The team opens South Atlantic Conference play at Catawba on February 27.
