NEW ORLEANS – Two UVA Wise harriers,
Alexsis Porter and
Jonah Adams, have been named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Athletes for the 2024 NCAA Division II Cross Country season. In addition, both teams earned All-Academic Team honors.
In order to qualify, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top 30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers. A team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
Porter, a sophomore biology student from Grundy, Virginia, had a breakout season as she finished in the top ten in three events, including sixth place in the Royals Challenge where she had a new personal best performance in the 5k.
Adams, a junior exercise science student from Delano, Tennessee, placed in the top ten in three meets this fall, including second in the Royals Challenge.
The men's team earned the All-Academic Team honors with their 3.6 team GPA, while the women had a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
