SPARTANBURG, SC – The UVA Wise cross country teams finished the 2024 campaign by competing in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship Saturday morning.
The men finished 23
rd while the women did not receive a team score.
On the men's side, The team received 635 points to place 23
rd in the 10k event with a combined time of 2:57.15 for an average of 35:27.
They were led by
Jonah Adams, who finished 51
st with his time of 32:36.4, while
Dorian Almer ran 34:32.0 to finish at 107
th.
Chad Douglas (36:17.3) was 152
nd, and
Matthew Rhoton (36:50.5) placed 161
st.
Jerry Hamilton was 164
th with a time of 37:00.2, while
Bennett Brunner was 176
th as he ran a time of 38:35.9.
The women only had four runners competing, so they did not compete as a team in the 6k event.
Alexsis Porter placed 68
th with her time of 24:07.3, and
Destyne Rutherford was 109
th with 25:59.3. Shaylen Cannon finished just behind Rutherford in 110
th with 26:01.1, and
Jayden Sisk was 152
nd with a time of 27:55.3.
The meet concludes the cross country season as neither the men nor the women qualified for the national meet. The teams will now prepare for the indoor track & field season, which begins on Nov. 16 in the Get Your Marks Field Meet at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
