Cavaliers Produce Record Performances and 13 Scoring Finishes at SAC Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The UVA Wise men's and women's track and field teams closed the indoor season with a strong showing at the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships, held February 28–March 1 at the JDL Fast Track. The Cavalier women finished eighth overall with 38.5 points, while the men placed 10th with 14 points, highlighted by multiple school records and 13 top-eight scoring performances.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
The men's team was powered by record-breaking performances and key scoring efforts in the field events.

Freshman David Williams delivered one of the top performances of the championship, clearing a school-record 4.40m (14-5.25) in the pole vault to earn a third-place finish and All-Conference Third Team honors. His clearance also marked a personal best and secured valuable points for the Cavaliers.

Junior Bobby Cline continued his standout season in the throws, placing fourth in the weight throw with a school-record mark of 17.01m (55-9.75). The throw not only earned him a scoring finish but further extended his program record while marking another personal best.

The Cavaliers added points in the relays as the distance medley relay team of Dylan Colander, Luke Collie, Chad Douglas, and Jonah Adams finished eighth (10:52.00) to secure a scoring position. The men's 4x400m relay of Peyton Honeycutt, Jonah Adams, Luke Collie, and Henry McFarlin established a new school record (3:30.66) while finishing tenth.

In the multi-events, Avone Noel earned a seventh-place finish in the heptathlon (3587 points) to add to the Cavaliers' scoring total.

Additional personal-best performances came from Caleb Ghammashi (5000m) and Landon Steele (shot put).

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
The Cavalier women delivered a deep scoring performance, highlighted by multiple podium finishes and program records.

Sophomore Alexis Carter led the way with a pair of All-Conference performances. She placed second in the weight throw (14.63m) to earn Second Team All-Conference honors, and added a third-place finish in the shot put (12.73m) — a school record — earning Third Team All-Conference recognition. Both marks were personal bests.

Senior Nia Rogers added crucial points in the throws, finishing third in the weight throw (14.51m) and sixth in the shot put (11.58m) to secure two scoring performances.
In the vault, sophomore Jordyn Taylor cleared 3.42m (11-2.50) to finish third, earning All-Conference Third Team honors. Teammate Fairyn Meares followed with a fourth-place finish (3.17m) and a personal-best clearance, giving UVA Wise two scorers in the event.

In the multi-events, Braelynn Strouth placed fifth in the pentathlon with a school-record 2885 points, adding valuable team points.

On the track, the Cavaliers continued to rewrite the record book. Haley Faulkner broke her own school record in the 400 meter (58.96), Olivia McClintock set a new best in the 200m (26.38), and Lydia Slemp reset the program standard in the 800 meter (2:26.08). The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Jocelyn Aldrich, Lydia Slemp, Kylie Brodt, and Haley Faulkner established a new school record (4:15.75) and the women's distance medley relay of Grace Adams, Kylie Brodt, Shay Cannon, and Lydia Slemp also broke the previous record running (13:29.83).
