KNOXVILLE, TN – The UVA Wise cross country teams competed this morning in the Cherokee Farms Invitational, which was held on the campus of the University of Tennessee. Both teams had strong outings, with the women finishing 3
rd with a combined time of 1:43:13 and the men 5
th with a time of 2:23:15.
Lydia Slemp led the way for the Highland Cavalier women as she placed sixth with a time of 19:23, followed in eight by
Alexsis Porter's 19:35 time.
Destyne Rutherford was fifteenth with 20:49 while
Grace Adams finished 22
nd with a 21:23 time. Shaylen Cannon was 29
th with 22:02,
Nicole Poston was 40
th with 23:51, and
Jayden Sisk was 46
th with 24:45.
Alissa Green' time of 25:15 placed her at 52
nd. All of the women's times were new personal bests.
On the men's side,
Jonah Adams had his second straight top ten finish as he placed fourth with 26:08.
Chad Douglas was 26
th with a time of 28:39, while
Matthew Rhoton was 28
th with 28:53.
Jerry Hamilton placed 31
st with 28:56, and
Bennett Brunner had a personal-best 30:37 time as he finished 55
th
The teams will next race in the Akiah McMillan Invitational, hosted by Columbia College, in Columbia, South Carolina, next Saturday.
