NEW ORLEANS – UVA Wise junior sprinter/jumper
Caleb Yeary has been named a Division II All-Academic Athlete by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The list of student-athletes earning that status was released earlier this week.
To be named a USTFCCA NCAA Division II All-Academic Athlete the student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25, have completed at least 24 semester hours, and achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark in either the indoor or outdoor season.
Yeary, a native of nearby Ewing, Virginia, had a breakout year in multiple events and is all over the program's record book. In his signature event, the 100 meter dash, he placed in the top ten each time he ran it and won the event in two meets. He provisionally qualified for nationals with his 10.42 time in the preliminary heats of the Lenoir-Rhyne Last Chance Meet in May.
He also had two third place finishes in the 200 meters and competed in the 60 meters, 4x100, 4x200, and long jump this year as well.
Yeary is the first UVA Wise men's track athlete to earn All-Academic Athlete status.
