BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – The UVA Wise women's track and field team opened up the outdoor portion of the season at the first outdoor event in program history Friday and Saturday as they competed in the Montreat Invitational.
The team had a lot of success in multiple events, with six top ten finishes and two more who placed in the top 25 of their events.
As a whole, the team placed 15
th in a field which included schools from all levels of collegiate competition.
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Shot Put –
Nia Rogers finished fourth with an 11.67 meter mark (38' 3").
Long Jump –
Madison Outland, who was ranked 20
th entering the meet, took fourth place with a personal best 5.32 meter (17' 5.5") mark.
Destiny Ansley-Cureton also had a new personal record as she improved from 23
rd coming in to finish eighth with a 5.23 mark (17' 2").
Discus –
Olyvia Fleming finished tenth with a throw of 34.69 meters (113' 9").
Javelin –
Mady Buchanan took ninth place with the 29.56 meter (96' 11") throw.
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
100 Meters –Ansley-Cureton and Outland both had personal records in the race, with Ansley-Cureton placing 18
th in 13.03, while Outland finished in 22
nd with a time of 13.13.
200 Meters – Ansley-Cureton and Outland also set new personal bests in this event as Outland finished 22
nd with a time of 27.20, while Ansley Cureton finished 24
th with 27.25.
4x100 Relay – The team of Outland, Ansley Cureton,
Nicole Poston, and
Alyssa Barker placed fourth with a time of 53.22.
UP NEXT
The team will travel up I-81 next weekend to compete in the Hornet Open, hosted by The University of Lynchburg.
