BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – The UVA Wise men's track and field team opened up the outdoor portion of the season at the first outdoor event in program history Friday and Saturday as they competed in the Montreat Invitational.
The team had several top 20 finishes, highlighted by the first first-place finish in the young history of the UVA Wise track program.
UVA Wise placed 14
th as a team in a field which comprised of schools from all collegiate levels.
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
100 Meters –
Caleb Yeary had the first of his personal bests as he posted a 9
th place 10.90 finish.
200 Meters – Yeary's second personal record came with his 22.60 time in the 200 meters, placing him at 16
th.
4x100 Relay – The team of
Brayden Dutton, Yeary,
Micah Roberts, and
Peyton Honeycutt placed sixth with a time of 42.93.
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
High Jump –
Patrick Shelley placed first in the event with a height of 2.0 meters (6' 6.75"), while
Bennett Estremera finished eighth with a height of 1.75 meters (5' 8.75")
Long Jump – Shelley had a jump of 6.18 meters (20' 3.5") to place 14
th, and Yeary finished 17
th with his 6.13 meter (20' 1.5") jump.
Javelin –
Hunter Blevins had a personal best with his throw of 43.94 meters (144' 2"), finishing in 14
th place.
Shot Put – Blevins placed 17
th with a throw of 12.66 meters (41' 6.5").
Hammer Throw –
Bobby Cline placed 18
th with a throw of 42.99 meters (141' 0"), while Blevins placed 18
th with his 39.63 meters (130' 0") throw.

The team will travel up I-81 next weekend to compete in the Hornet Open, hosted by The University of Lynchburg.
