Winston-Salem, N.C. – The UVA Wise women's track and field team took a partial group to the JDL Last Chance Invitational on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. In the final regular-season meet, the Cavs captured two top-ten finishes.
Madison Outland achieved both top-ten finishes with a pair of ninth-place rankings in the long jump and the triple jump. In the long jump, Outland leaped 4.67 meters (15-4) to advance to the final. However, in the final, Outland did not improve upon her best jump of the day. In the triple jump, Outland once again qualified for the final after jumping 9.98 meters (32-9). However, she chose to pass on her final jumps of the day.
Freshman
Destiny Ansley-Cureton ran a personal best time of 8.20 in the 60-meter dash, earning her a 15th place finish overall. She also secured a pair of 11th place finishes in the long jump and the triple jump. Ansley-Cureton jumped 4.64 meters (15-2.75) and 9.68 meters (31-9.25) respectively in those events.
Junior
Nia Rogers also tallied two 11th place finishes in the afternoon. In the shot put, Rogers threw the shot 11.18 meters (36-8.25). Later that afternoon in the weight throw, Rogers set a new personal best with a throw of 13.02 meters (42-8.75).
Next up for the Cavs will be the South Atlantic Indoor Track and Field Conference Championships. This will be the first time in school history that UVA Wise will compete in the event. The championship will take place on February 24th and 25th in Winston-Salem at the JDL Fast Track
