Winston-Salem, N.C. – The UVA Wise men's track and field team took a partial group to the JDL Last Chance Invitational on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. In the final regular-season meet, the Cavs captured three top-ten finishes and six personal bests during the event.
Junior
Caleb Yeary continued his strong indoor campaign with a top-ten finish in the 60-meter dash. In the preliminary round, Yeary ran 7.00 to set a new personal best and grabbed eighth place to advance to the final round. In the final, Yeary clocked a 7.01 and improved his position by two places, taking sixth overall in the event. Yeary also set a new personal best in the 200m dash, running 23.77 to finish 13th in the event.
Freshman
Nate Bushey captured his first top-ten finish of the season with a ninth-place showing in the 400-meter dash. Bushey ran a personal best time of 53.02. Like Yeary, Bushey also set his second personal best time of the day in the 200-meter dash, finishing the event with a time of 24.32 and securing a 23rd place finish.
In the throws, junior
Hunter Blevins finished 10th in the weight throw and 11th in the shot put to cap off a solid afternoon. In the weight throw, Blevins threw 12.06 meters (39-7) on his last attempt to secure the tenth-place finish. Blevins also set a new personal best in the shot put, throwing 13.25 meters (43-5.75).
Next up for the Cavs will be the South Atlantic Indoor Track and Field Conference Championships. This will be the first time in school history that UVA Wise will compete in the event. The championship will take place on February 24th and 25th in Winston-Salem at the JDL Fast Track.
