Danville, KY – The UVA Wise Women's track and field team continued their indoor campaign at the Centre College Indoor Invitational. The meet took place in the Lisa H. Owens Field House on the campus of Centre College. In the competition, the Cavaliers placed six athletes in the top-ten.
Freshman
Madison Outland led the way for the Cavaliers, gathering three personal bests on the day and two top-ten finishes. In the 60m dash, Outland set a personal best time in the preliminary round, running 8.07 to take fourth and advance to the final. In the final, she improved her personal best to 8.02, finishing fourth overall. Outland also set a personal best in the triple jump, finishing sixth with a jump of 10.17m (33-4.5).
Fellow sprinter/jumper
Destiny Ansley-Cureton grabbed three personal bests and three top-ten finishes on the day. In the preliminary round, Ansley-Cureton set a new personal best time. Her time of 8.21 secured seventh place and advanced her to the final. In the final she improved one spot to sixth. She ran 8.23 in the final. Ansley-Cureton, continued to see improvement in her triple jump. Her jump of 9.85m (32-3.75) placed her seventh overall. Ansley-Cureton also took seventh in the long jump, jumping 4.66m (15-3.5).
A pair of freshman distance runners had a great afternoon.
Alexsis Porter took third overall in the 5000m run. Porter ran a personal best time of 19:52.32 in the event. The time was a 45 second improvement on her previous best.
Lydia Slemp set personal bests in the 800m (2:34.06) and the mile (5:39.10). Those times landed her a tenth place and seventh place finish respectively.
In the throws, junior
Nia Rogers snatched a pair of fifth place finishes in the shot put and the weight throw. Rogers threw 11.34m (37-2.5) in the shot, and 12.63m (41-5.25) in the 20lb weight throw.
The Cavaliers will return to action next week as the team will round out the "regular season" at the JDL Last Chance Invitational next week in Winston-Salem, NC.
