ROCK HILL, SC – Freshman multi-event athlete
Braelynn Strouth has been named the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for her performance last week in the Centre College First Chance Meet. The award was announced by the conference office earlier today.
The Pound, Virginia, native had a big week in only her second collegiate event as she won the triple jump event with a jump of 10.85 meters (35' 7.25"), placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.50 meters (4'11") and placed sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.94. All are new personal bests, and the triple jump is also a new school record.
She becomes the first UVA Wise athlete, male or female, to be named an Athlete of the Week for indoor track & field and the second for track & field overall, joining men's sprinter/jumper Patrick Shelley who was named Field Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season last year.
She is also the first recipient of the honor this season.
The track & field teams will next compete on January 24-25, 2025, in the VMI Invitational.
