WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The UVA Wise Cavalier track and field team opened their indoor season at the Get Your Marks Field Meet, held at the JDL FastTrack. This meet, focusing solely on field events, was designed primarily for new athletes without official marks.
Freshman
Raegan Cox made a stunning debut, capturing first place in the women's high jump. Cox achieved a personal best and set a new school record with a jump of 1.55m (5'1").
Braelynn Strouth also had an impressive debut, earning three top-five finishes and breaking one school record. In the women's triple jump, Strouth leaped to a distance of 10.46m (34'4"), securing third place and setting the new school record. She narrowly missed another school record in the long jump, finishing fourth with a mark of 4.87m (15'11.75"), just 3 cm shy of the record. Strouth rounded out her day with a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.50m (4'11").
On the men's side, freshman
Hunter Garrett and sophomore
Bennett Estremera each claimed third-place finishes in their respective events. Garrett set a new school record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.65m (11'11.75"), while Estremera achieved a personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.85m (6'0.75").
The Cavaliers will return to action on December 7th at the Centre First Chance Invitational.
