Salem, VA – The UVA Wise women's track and field team returned to action last Friday and Saturday with four top-ten finishes at the the Finn Pincus Invitational hosted by Roanoke College.
Freshman Madison Outland led the way for the Cavs, as she qualified for the finals of the 60m dash. In the semifinal round, Outland ran an 8.14 to take third place in her heat. Her time was among the two fastest non-qualifying times to earn advancement to the finals. In the finals, Outland took eighth place overall running an 8.20.
Freshman Alexsis Porter turned in two top-ten finishes over the two-day period. On Friday night, Porter took fifth overall in the women's 3000m race. Porter clocked a time of 11:40.26. On Saturday, Porter competed in the 5000m run. Her time of 20:37.11 was good enough for a seventh-place finish.
The Cavs also saw stellar action in the preliminary rounds of the 60m dash. Freshman Destiny Ansley-Cureton finished in the top eight to advance to Friday's semifinal round. Ansley-Cureton took eighth overall in the preliminary round with a time of 8.32. She would fail to advance to the final despite earning a season and personal best time in the semifinal by running an 8.28. Ansley-Cureton would also turn a top-ten finish in the triple jump, jumping a season best 9.66m (31-8.5).
The Highland Cavalier women's track and field team will return to action this Friday Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27 at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va. Action is slated to commense with field events at 2 p.m. on Friday.
