Salem, VA – The UVA Wise men's track and field team returned to action last Friday and Saturday with five top-ten finishes at the the Finn Pincus Invitational hosted by Roanoke College.
Junior Maddox Reynolds led the way for the Cavs, as he turned in a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles. In the finals Reynolds clocked an 8.74 time. In the preliminary heats, Reynolds turned in a season-best time of 8.72 to advance to the finals.
In the field events, freshman Colton Mullins, and juniors Jaden Fields, Caleb Yeary and Hunter Blevins also had top-ten finishes. Mullins took seventh overall in the triple jump with a season best jump of 12.10m (39-8.5). Fields and Yeary finished seventh and eighth respectively in the long jump. Fields jumped a distance of 6.07m (19-11) and Yeary jumped 5.99m (19-8). Blevins rounded out the top-ten finishes for the men with a tenth-place finish in the shot put. Blevins threw a season best 13.19m (43-3.25).
Other notable performances saw freshman Brayden Dutton advance out of the preliminary rounds of the 60m dash. Dutton clocked a 7.22 which was good enough for seventh place. Dutton would fail to advance to the final despite achieving a season and personal best time in the semifinal round, running an impressive 7.20.
The Highland Cavalier men's track and field team will return to action this Friday Jan. 26 and Saturday Jan. 27 at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va. Action is slated to begin with field events at 2 p.m. on Friday.
