BEREA, Ky. - - The men's cross country team at UVA Wise placed second at the Berea College Mike and Mary Kay Johnson Cross Country Invitational Saturday. Sophomore Jonah Adams continued his strong start to the season with a second-place finish as the Delano, Tenn. product crossed the finish line for the 8K event in 27:11.56.
Freshman Eric Hegg placed top five with a fifth-place finish by posting a time of 27:39.8. It was the second consecutive top-five performance for the Chesapeake, Va. native to start his collegiate career, Hegg placed fourth in the fall opener in Salem, Va. last week.
Fellow freshman Chad Douglas placed 18th with a time of 30:05.73 while sophomore Nick DeBoard crossed in 30:48.99 to come in 24th place.
Carson Latham (29th place) finished in 31:11.83, Gavin Bolling (30th place) finished in 31:12.55 and Avery Wells (32nd place) finished with a time of 31:18.44 to round out Cavalier runners in the event.
Berea's Robert Immell was the individual champion with a time of 26:37.1 while Covenant took home the team title with a score of 39, 16 points better than UVA Wise.
Next up, the Cavs will race at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky. On Sept. 30.
