WISE — Carly Kempton has been named as the newest assistant coach for the UVA Wise volleyball program, Head Coach Alyssa Hanley announced today.

"I am excited to have Carly join our Cavalier volleyball family," Hanley said. "It is clear that she has great knowledge of the game, but more importantly she is incredibly passionate about developing the entire student-athlete. I think Carly is going to make a great addition to our coaching staff and will help our program reach new heights."

Kempton comes to UVA Wise after completing a graduate assistantship coaching position at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. During her time with the Statesmen, Kempton aided the team in a 21-win season in 2022 and followed the team through their second round of the post-season (The Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals).

Prior to her time at William Penn, the Pewaukee, Wisc. native served in various volleyball coaching positions in Oconomowoc, Wisc. at Oconomowoc High School and the Oconomowoc Volleyball Club. Additionally, Kempton had multiple coaching stints with the Midwest Penguins from Milwaukee and the Eau Claire Air Volleyball Club from Eau Claire.

Kempton was a three-year varsity letterwinner of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball program and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Education, English, and Coaching in May of 2016. As a player, Kempton led the Blugolds through two NCAA Division III post-season appearances in 2011 and 2012, while aiding the 2012 squad in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship with a 3-0 win over UW-Stevens Point.

"I want to thank Coach Hanley and the rest of the athletics department for the opportunity to be involved in a committed environment to both success and growth," Kempton said. "Everyone on campus and in the community have been so welcoming. I am very excited to work within a program dedicated to building up student-athletes for both on and off the court success."

Kempton will begin coaching duties for UVA Wise in the upcoming 2023 season.
