WOMEN'S TENNIS SECURES FIRST CONFERENCE WIN, SMASH WASPS

EMORY, VA. — After taking a 6-1 defeat to No. 21-ranked Anderson on Saturday, the women's tennis team jumped back and secured the program's first-ever South Atlantic Conference win — smashing a 5-2 triumph over the Emory & Henry Wasps on Sunday afternoon.

Against Emory & Henry (4-10, 0-9 SAC), duo Antonella Campodonico and Constanca Azinhaga took down their Wasps opponents by a swift 6-2 score. In the No. 2 spot, Emily Syms and Amelia Monteith followed suit and swiped a 6-3 win to secure the doubles point.

In singles play, Lucy Cunliffe put on a dominating performance in the No. 3 spot — holding Emory & Henry's Nina Williams scoreless (6-0, 6-0).

Following Cunliffe was Amelia Monteith who took care of opponent Katie Bradley in a 6-0, 6-2 fashion in the No. 5 spot.

After taking two singles losses at No. 1 and No. 4 soon after, Azinhaga clinched the match with a huge first-set tiebreaker win.

At No. 6, Emily Conn secured another matchup win, going three sets and forcing a tiebreaker to take the triumph.

Up next, UVA Wise heads back home on April 7 to face Carson-Newman with a 3 PM first-serve.
