WISE — UVA Wise got back into the win circle as they took down SAC foe Mars Hill by a dominating 18-7 score at Carl Smith Stadium on Wednesday, March 29.
In the first period, Mars Hill (4-7, 2-4 SAC) kept the Cavs on their toes in the first after three consecutive goals put the Lions up by a 3-1 score. The cavaliers came back with a vengeance as Issie Brown, Mallory Trimble, and Grace Golatt all found their way to the net by the 8:49 mark to keep their squad within reach. To finish out the period, Katie Allen collected an unassisted woman-down goal at the 3:13 mark to tie the game at 4-4 each.
In second-period scoring, UVA Wise was in the driver's seat. A five-goal performance led by an Abby Stoffelen shot at the 14:35 mark gave the Cavs a 9-5 lead going into the break.
In the third, Mars Hill had no answers — going scoreless as UVA Wise drove home six more scores to put the score at 15-5.
Mars Hill's Mina Muirhead and Alexa Tazzetta were able to put a goal up on the board in the fourth, but no run would be enough for the Lions as UVA Wise secured the 18-7 triumph at the final horn.
In the final fourteen goals scored in the contest, UVA Wise scored 12 of them. Golatt finished the day with 4 goals while Allen added a hat trick. Stoffelen (2), Caitlyn Schultz (2), Trimble (2), Brown (2), Ashley Fisher (2) and Kaila Lacey (1) also made their mark on the scoreboard for the Cavs.
Samantha Newton (2) and Tazzetta (2) led scoring for the Lions.
