TIGERVILLE, S.C. — A four-goal closing period from the Cavaliers would hold through to the final buzzer to grab an 11-9 triumph against North Greenville on Monday.
Coach Meghan Dennehy's squad found themselves down 2-0 after the Crusaders slid in two goals in the first seven minutes of play. To cut the deficit in half, Caitlyn Schultz would score her first of five goals at the 6:12 mark before teammates Mallory Trimble and Sydney Trask would put in an unassisted goal each to even the score at 3-3 to end the first period.
In the second, Schultz would score two of the stanza's four goals while the Crusaders would tab three of their own — placing the Cavaliers at a mere one goal advantage going into halftime.
After the break, North Greenville defense would hold the Cavaliers from scoring in the third. The Crusaders would find their way to the net on one opportunity and tie the game up at 7-7.
In the final quarter, UVA Wise would fire on all cylinders — Olivia Toomer would save three shots in goal and hold off the hosts while Schultz (2), Anna Claire Watt (1), and Katie Allen (1) would push the Cavaliers ahead 11-9 for the final victory.
Toomer would finish with 10 saved shots in goal. Schultz led her team with five goals and five points while adding two groundballs and two draw controls to her stat line.
Up next, UVA Wise heads back home to face SAC opponent Anderson on Saturday, March 18 with a 1 PM start.
