SPARTANBURG, S.C. — UVA Wise's Caitlyn Schultz secured a career-high six goals en route to a 21-6 win over the Valkyries in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, March 11 dedicated to the One Love Foundation.
"We came together to support the One Love Foundation today," Head Coach Meghan Dennehy said. "Because some things are bigger than the game."
The One Love Foundation is a national non-profit organization with the goal of ending relationship abuse. The foundation empowers young people with the tools and resources they need to see the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships and bring life-saving prevention education to their communities. Converse (3-4) may have made the first move from Hailey Obenchain on UVA Wise (4-3) to snag a 1-0 lead, but the lead didn't last long as Ashley Fisher sparked a 5-1 Cavalier lead to finish out the first quarter.
The Valkyries were able to put away three more goals in the second, but the Cavaliers found ways to explode on the offense. Led by Mallory Trimble (2) and Schultz (2), UVA Wise had jumped to a 12-4 lead before the break.
After the break, Katie Allen drove in a goal at the 14:46 mark of the third quarter that inspired a six-goal unanswered rally. It wouldn't be until the 2:53 mark of the quarter that Converse would put another on the board to put the score at 18-5.
In the final quarter, UVA Wise outscored the Valkyries 3-1 to finish off the 21-6 triumph.
Schultz finished with a game-high six goals while Trimble, Fisher, and Watt added three each. Trimble also added a team-high six draw controls while Taylor Thompson snagged a game-high three ground balls.
Up next, UVA Wise has a quick turnaround and heads to North Greenville on March 13 for a 3 PM start.
