CAVALIER WOMEN VISIT LMU WEDNESDAY

Storylines – LMU

Wednesday's game with UVA Wise will be the final regualr season game of the season for Devan Carter's Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial has already locked up a berth in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament but has plenty to play for against UVA Wise. LMU needs a win to guarantee itself of not falling to fourth in the league standings. Despite a 76-67 loss at Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday, the 'Splitters have been playing well down the stretch. LMU has won three of its last four games and sports a 7-3 record inside Tex Turner Arena this winter. In the first meeting between the two schools, Saquita Joyner scored a game-high 22 points as the team held UVA Wise to 2-of-16 shooting in the fourth quarter to escape with a 59-58 triumph. All-time, LMU leads the series 23-to-7 and has lost just twice ever in Harrogate, the most recent coming on Jan. 25, 2021 when the Cavs won 87-79 in Turner Arena.

About UVA WisE

UVA Wise should have fresh legs entering the final week of the season. The Cavaliers' game with Bluefield State was called off due to COVID-19 issues inside the Blues' program, meaning Jamie Cluesman's team has not played in a week. Thanks to the team's 78-67 win at Emory & Henry last week, UVA Wise enters the season's final two games at 14-13, meaning the squad needs a win in one of its final two games to secure a winning season. Last time out, Nia Vanzant scored 15 points as she eclipsed 1,500 points for her career. Vanzant's big night was one of many for the Cavs against the Wasps as Josie Hester (16), Katlin Burger (12), Kaitlin Bailey (11) and Anna Whited (10) all reached double-figure scoring. The 10 points by Whited were a season-high for the former Eastside High School standout while Leah Kestner finished with six points, seven rebounds and a career-high four assists as UVA Wise completed a season-series sweep of its Southwest Virginia rival. Caitlyn Ross continues to be among the best in the nation in dishing out assists. The Kingston, Tenn. native's 203 assists this season are the most by any women in NCAA Division II basketball. Ross is also in a tight race with Jefferson's Morgan Robinson for the assists per game lead. Robinson is averaging 7.53 assists per game while Ross is averaging 7.51 assists a contest.
