WISE – UVA Wise women's basketball student-athletes
Alissa Cheek,
Madison Looney, and
Jalie Ruehling have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® team for the 2025-26 season.
Ruehling, a junior from Coalmont, Tennessee, averaged 5.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals a game this season. The two-time Kay Yow Servant Leader recipient led the team in assists and was second in rebounding.
Cheek, a sophomore from Brevard, North Carolina, averaged 9.8 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.2 rebounds a game. She was the top defensive player on the team, often guarding the other team's best player. If they tracked drawn charges she probably led the nation in that category.
Looney, a sophomore from Grundy, Virginia, was second on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg) and third in rebounding (5.1 rpg). A very efficient shooter, she led the team and was third I the SAC in field goal percentage, hitting 51.4 percent of her shots.
The Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court/field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Nominees must be at least a sophomore with a 3.5 grade point average or higher. They must also have played in a specific number of games/matches or started a specific number of games/matches. Some sports have extra criteria, like track and field nominees needing to win or place highly in the regional rankings. The number of nominees are limited within each respective sport and the at-large team (which comprises golf, lacrosse, beach volleyball, field hockey, and several other sports).
