WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The UVA Wise Indoor Track and Field squad opened its season down south in North Carolina at the JDL Early Bird Invitational.
The Cavalier men and women showed their best in the shorter events on the day, logging two top 10 finishes in separate 60 meter contests.Â
The highest UVA Wise finish came courtesy of freshman
Madison Outland in the women's 60 meter sprint, where Outland placed sixth out of 41 competitors with a time of 8.09 seconds.
Junior
Caleb Yeary led the way on the men's side of things, as he finished the 60 meter sprint in 7.13 seconds to score a ninth place finish out of 58 competitors.
Other notable finishers for the Highland Cavaliers include sophomore
Maddox Reynolds with a  12th place result in the men's 60 meter hurdles. Senior
Mady Buchanan earned a 13th place finish in the women's pole vault by clearing a height of 2.6 meters. Cross country standout freshman
Lydia Slemp with a 14th place run in the women's 3,000 meter distance event. And freshman
Colton Mullins with a 14th place finish in the men's high jump.
UVA Wise Indoor Track & Field is back in action next on Jan. 21 for the JDL Flat is Fast Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
