WISE - - Sophomore defensive back Robert Carter has been named an Honorable Mention All-American by Don Hansen. A Ringold, Va. product, Carter becomes the third UVA Wise football player to be named All-America since the school joined NCAA Division II joining wide receiver James Long and linebacker Zachary Blair as former student-athletes to earn honor.

Named Defensive Back of the Year by the Richmond Touchdown Club, Carter had a breakout season in 2022. The First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference and All-Region honoree, picked off a league-leading six passes this fall while ranking ninth nationally in the category.

The cornerback added 42 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss in a season that saw the 5-foot-10, 170-pounder score via interception return, fumble recover return and kickoff return this season.
