BUENA VISTA, VA., SALEM, VA. — The UVA Wise women's tennis team were victorious in both matchups this weekend, defeating the Southern Virginia University Knights by a score of 5-4 and the Roanoke Maroon by a score of 7-2.

@ Southern Virginia University (SVU):

Against the Knights, the Cavaliers nearly took all three doubles matchups. Constanca Azinhaga and Antonella Campodonico took a 8-6 win in No. 1, and Lucy Cunliffe and Amelia Monteith took a flawless 8-0 win at No. 2. In No. 3, Sara Nichols and Madison Ramey just barely fell to opponents Grace Howell and Elizabeth Galli by a score of 8-6.

The Cavaliers fought tough in singles play, as Campodonico, Cunliffe, and Monteith all defeated their Knight opponents in No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4.

Azinhaga, Sarah Moore, and Emily Conn were defeated, but the Cavs achieved the final 5-4 victory.

@ Roanoke:

In the Cavaliers' second matchup on the weekend, UVA Wise won seven of nine against the Maroon.

The duo of Azinhaga and Monteith secured an 8-1 victory against Fermstrum and Bassett. Striebich and Rios fell to Cavalier opponents Cunliffe and Conn by the same score of 8-1, and Ramey and Nichols secured an 8-2 victory over Maiden and Otto.

In singles play, Azinhaga, Monteith, Nichols, and Ramey secured wins at their placements while Cunliffe Conn each fell in tough tiebreaker face-offs.

With four singles wins and three doubles wins, the Cavs remained victorious overall with a 7-2 score.
