MEN'S TENNIS COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP

MURFREESBORO, N.C., BUENA VISTA, VA., SALEM, VA. — The UVA Wise men's tennis team completed the full sweep against Chowan, Southern Virginia University, and Roanoke on the road this weekend, defeating their opponents by scores of 4-3, 6-3, and 9-0.

@ Chowan:

The Cavs began doubles play snagging two of three matchups, as Miguel De Rueda and Gustavo Marangoni took down Hesley Masara and Nikola Cvetanovic by a score of 6-1 in No. 1 Doubles.

In the second doubles spot, Cavalier duo Dominik Thuri-Nagy and Vanja Vojinovic struggled against Chowan's Santino Jose Sormani and Aser Shaaban as the Hawks snagged the win 6-2.

In the final doubles spot, Fabian Segreda and Dominic Hoffman were able to seal the deal with a tight 7-6 win over Michael Correa and Alvaro Juscamaita.

Moving into singles play, the Cavaliers were up by a point due to clinching the doubles overall point. In the first three matchups, Thuri-Nagy, De Rueda, and Marangoni defeated their Chowan opponents — but Chowan's Shaaban, Correa, and Juscamaita snagged the final three wins. With the doubles win, the Cavs prevailed by a final score of 4-3.

@ Southern Virginia University (SVU):

Against the Knights, the Cavaliers once again took two of three in doubles play as De Rueda/Marangoni and Thuri-Nagy/Hoffman took down their opponents (8-5, 8-6). In the No. 2 spot, Vojinovic/Segreda fell to SVU's Daniel Blonquist and Ethan Campbell by a 8-2 score.

The Knights put up a fight in singles play, as Marcos Dias and Spencer Knight each snagged a win in No. 1 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Yet, Cavaliers De Rueda, Marangoni, Vojinovic, and Hoffman all took defining wins against their SVU opponents to lead them to the final 6-3 overall victory.

@ Roanoke:

In the final match of the weekend, The Cavaliers never took a loss against any of their Roanoke opponents. In doubles, De Rueda/Marangoni, Vojinovic/Hoffman, and Thuri-Nagu/Kilgore swiftly defeated the Maroon by scores of 8-5, 8-4, and 8-4.

Singles play displayed a total domination from UVA Wise. Most notably, Vojinovic in the No. 4 spot held opponent Jackson Wagner without a point in 6-0, 6-0 scores. The Cavaliers defeated the Maroon in a flawless 9-0 score.
