WISE, VA — the UVA Wise women's tennis team secured a hard-fought win against the Milligan Buffaloes by a tight score of 4-3 in Elizabethton, Tenn. this Sunday.

UVA Wise (2-0) confirmed an overall win in doubles play after strong performances from duos Constanca Azinhaga/Lucy Cunliffe and Antonella Campodonico/Amelia Monteith to snag 6-3 set wins each against their Milligan opponents.

A long-fought battle ensued in singles play, down to the final matchup. Azinhaga represented the Cavaliers in the #1 spot and hung on to win 7-5 and 6-3 against Milligan's KG Barrett.

In #2, Campodonico battled, but eventually fell to opponent Sophie Dunman by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.

Milligan picked up another win in the #3 spot as Kylie Emerson of the Buffaloes took set wins of 6-3, 6-2 against Cunliffe of the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers were able to even the score up as Monteith swiftly defeated opponent Macy Kennedy in 6-3, 6-3 set wins in the #4 spot; but Tiana Shelton gave Milligan the advantage in the #5 matchup as she defeated Cavalier Sarah Moore by scores of 6-0 and 6-4.

In the final singles matchup at #6, Emily Conn secured a win with set scores of 6-2, 6-3.


With the doubles play win and three singles wins, the Cavaliers tallied a 4-3 final triumph.

The Cavaliers sit at a 2-0 record in fall non-conference play and will face Southern Virginia University in their next match on Saturday, Sep. 24.
