WISE - - A quartet of UVA Wise hitters lined three hits as part of a 15-hit effort in UVA Wise's 7-6 non-conference baseball win over Tusculum at Stallard Field Wednesday. Freshman D'Sean Prinkleton led the charge with a 3-for-5 day at the plate that included a game-winning triple in the bottom of the eighth inning.
TUSCULUM BREAKS OUT ON TOP
An RBI single off the bat of Will Samuelson scored Kyle Williams to give the visitors a 1-0 lead before the Cavaliers ever came to bat.
DICKSON STAYS HOT
Freshman DJ Dickson continued his hot hitting when he doubled in a pair of runs in the home second to give UVA Wise a 2-1 lead.
SNIDER PERFECT IN RELIEF
Cavalier reliever Justin Snider was perfect in a pair of relief innings as he fanned two while needing just 26 pitches to record six outs.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
A trio of run-producing doubles by UVA Wise gave the hosts a 6-1 lead in the fifth. Prinkleton started the doubles parade when he doubled home Clay Taylor, two hitters later Prinkleton scored on an RBI double by Bret Roberts before Tyler Campbell knocked in Roberts and Dickson with a double.
PIONEERS INCH CLOSER
Blaze McCauley would double in a run in the sixth to make it a 6-2 game before Jacob Stuart would record the last out of the frame to avoid further damage.
GUESTS TIE IT UP
Tusculum would tie the game with a four-run eighth inning. Zane Keener singled home  Williams to cut the lead to 6-3 prior to a Chris Ortega sacrifice fly making it a two-run affair. Jaden Steagall would tie the game with a two-run, two-out homer to left field to cap a stretch of five consecutive runs for the Pioneers.
PRINKLETON TO THE RESCUE
With an out and Hunter Meador on first base, Prinkleton stepped to the plate in the bottom of the eighth. The centerfielder would line a triple allowing Meador to come around with the go-ahead run.
CLOSING IT OUT
Hunter Anderson would record three fly outs in the top of the ninth to secure the win and his second mound win of 2022.
BOX SCORE NOTES
Dickson finished with three hits and pushed his hitting streak to seven games. Campbell finished the game 3-for-3 with a pair of walks while Meador went 3-for-5 with a run scored. In addition to Prinkleton's three hits, he added a stolen base and an outfield assist to his impressive day.
The win was the first-ever for UVA Wise over Tusculum at Stallard Field and the first home win over the Pioneers since the 1999 season.
