Queens' hopes of making the SAC Tournament are dwindling as the Royals have lost four consecutive games entering Saturday's contest with UVA Wise. Coach Jen Brown's squad played just seven players in Wednesday's 75-57 loss to Coker. In the loss, Kalaya Hall registered a game-high 22 points as the junior continued her standout season. For the year, the guard is averaging 20.6 points per game and has scored at least 20 points in five consecutive games. Her 43-point outburst against Limestone marks the third most points scored by a woman in NCAA Division II basketball this winter. In addition to Hall, Queens has the league's assist leader in Taylor Stevens who is handing out 4.6 assists per night. Stevens' status for Saturday is unknown as she has missed the last three games.
Winners of three of its last four games, UVA Wise continues its pursuit of making the SAC Tournament. Most recently, redshirt senior Kalee Johnson scored 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting to lead the Cavaliers to a 79-63 victory. Johnson enters Saturday's game 11th in program history in scoring with 1,301 points. The forward came pass Makenzie Cluesman for 10th on the list with a 19-point outing against Queens. As a team, UVA Wise is coming off its best shooting performance of the season. Jamie Cluesman's crew shot a robust 57.8 percent from the floor thanks to a 10-for-12 shooting performance in the opening quarter. In the first meeting between the two schools this season, Jaymi Golden banked in a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to propel the Cavs to victory.
