CARTER NAMED DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE YEAR BY RICHMOND TD CLUB

RICHMOND - - UVA Wise sophomore defensive back has been named Small College Defensive Back Of The Year by the Richmond Touchdown Club. A Ringold, Va. native, Carter becomes the first player in program history to earn the award and joins former Highland Cavaliers Ra'Shad Morgan and Zachary Blair as players honored by the Richmond Touchdown Club.

A First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference and Second-Team All-Region honoree, Carter had a breakout season in 2022. The former Dan River High School standout established a new NCAA Division II era program record with six interceptions as he led the conference and ranked ninth in all of NCAA Division II in interceptions per game at 0.5.

Carter added 42 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss to an impressive stat line this fall. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder returned an interception for a touchdown, scooped a fumble and returned it for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for a touchdown this season.

In the span of two weeks, the cornerback intercepted four passes as he had back-to-back two-interception games against Barton and Limestone.

Also an accomplished kick returner, he led the SAC and ranked eighth in NCAA Division II in combined kick return yardage at 742 while averaging 21.3 yards per kickoff return.

The third player in program history to be honored by the Richmond Touchdown Club, Carter joins former Dudley Award Winner Ra'Shad Morgan and Linebacker of the Year Zachary Blair in the exclusive club.

The Richmond Touchdown Club Awards Show can be seen live on Richmond CBS affiliate WTVR-TV6 this Saturday following the Army vs. Navy football game on CBS. Air time is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m.
