WISE, VA — With the help of 11 kills from freshman Bailey Conner, The UVA Wise Cavaliers completed a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-14) sweep of the non-conference Lees-McRae Bobcats on Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
The Bobcats (7-20, 6-10 Conference Carolinas) finagled a 15-12 lead in the first set after hitter Annalaine Tew put down two consecutive kills. After a back-to-back rally, the Cavaliers (5-15, 1-13 SAC) came crawling back and evened the game at 21. Although Lees-McRae had one more crack, the trio of Morgan Blevins, Kaylee Scarce, and Morgan Blankenship sealed the deal with a 25-22 win.
In the second, efforts were dead-even as scores trickled to 24 each. Scarce put down a demoralizing kill that the Bobcats couldn't recover from — and a Bobcat error turned the set over to the Cavs, 26-24.
In the third set, momentum was all aimed at UVA Wise as the Bobcats weren't able to get past 14 total points. An eight-point consecutive run highlighted by a Kinley Norris kill gave the Cavs a 25-14 win.
The win marked the first win and 3-0 sweep for the Cavaliers since Oct. 1 (Coker).
The Cavaliers hit a .232 on the night against the Bobcats' .188. Kamryn Livingston ended with 16 digs, while Lily Gutierrez added 21 assists. Cassidy Farley put up a tough four blocks.
Up next, the Cavaliers head back into SAC play as they face the Lions of Mars Hill on Oct. 28 and Tusculum on Oct. 29.
