MARS HILL, N.C. — The Cavaliers struggled to hold off a hearty Mars Hill offense tonight, falling to the Lions in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-16) defeat on Friday.
The UVA Wise Cavaliers (5-16, 1-14 SAC) only were able to put up a -.037 hitting percentage against Mars Hill's (16-7, 11-4 SAC) .364.
The Lions came out of the gates strong as they scored four consecutive points let from Jordan Schmucker. The lead was cut by a kill each from Cassidy Farley and Kaylee Scarce, but Mars Hill's offense led by Jana Cuk and Sarah Goddard was too tough for the Cavs to defend, and the Lions prevailed by a 25-11 score.
In the second set, the Cavs fell to an identical 25-11 score in the second set, with powerful stints from Kinley Norris and Lauren Montes on the attack.
In the final set, a six-point run from the Lions was the silencer for the Cavs, as the Cavs fell in the finale by a 25-16 score.
Montes led the Cavaliers with five kills on the night, while Hannah Persinger blocked three and Lily Gutierrez put up 11 assists.
Up next, the Cavs play Lincoln Memorial on Nov. 1 at 7 PM.
