WISE, VA — The UVA Wise women's tennis team took two wins against non-conference opponents University of Pikeville (4-3) and Shawnee State (7-0) today at the Jim & Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex this afternoon.

PIKEVILLE:

In doubles play, Antonella Campodonico and Amelia Monteith keep opponents Sara Contreras and Hannah Thompson scoreless in a 6-0 defeat in the No. 2 spot.

Next, Constanca Azinhaga and Lucy Cunliffe held UPike (0-1) Katie Steib and Gabi Guacanes to a 6-1 score in No. 1, securing the overall doubles win. In the doubles finale, Sarah Moore and Sara Nichols were defeated by Elizabeth Davis and Madison Ball by a score of 6-3.

The Cavaliers (6-1) started off singles play with a 5-0 Campodonico win due to a UPike injury. The No. 6 spot finished next, as Bear Thompson took down Madison Ramey in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat. Cunliffe added another to the win column for UVA Wise in the No. 4 spot as well as Azinhaga who swept Imsha Jawad in in the No. 1 spot. The three UVA Wise singles victories sealed the deal for the Cavs as they took the overall triumph 4-3 over the Bears.

SHAWNEE STATE:

Doubles play for the Cavs ended in wins at No. 1 and No. 2 as Azinhaga/Campodonico and Cunliffe/Monteith dominated their Shawnee State (0-1)opponents by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

In singles play, every single Cavalier came out victorious in their respective matchups against the Bears, and not one of the six face-offs went into a third set.

With both wins, the Cavs finish the fall season with a 6-1 record.
