Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – Women's tennis earned its first win of the campaign in a 5-0 sweep of King University (Tenn.) Saturday afternoon at the Bristol Sportsplex.
In doubles, junior Lillian Morris and freshman Sarah Moore fell 6-1 to King's Marilyn Roustand and Lauren Smorgonsky. Juniors Katya Akimenko and Liza Akimenko collected the win at number two by default.
At No. 1 singles, Liza Akimenko posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Tornado's Roustand while Katya Akimenko earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Smorgonsky at the number two spot. Fellow junior Grace Hall recorded her first singles match win of the spring, defeating King's Murphy Harr 6-3, 6-2 at number three. Morris and Moore each won at the fourth and fifth spot by default as the Cavs moved to 1-0 on the campaign.
Head coach Danny Rowland and the Cavs will return to the road next weekend with back-to-back matches. UVA Wise will first face Milligan University on Saturday before squaring off against Randolph College on Sunday. Both match times are set for noon.
