CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The UVA Wise men's and women's cross country teams came in 13th place and 10th place at the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the McAlpine Creek Greenway course in Charlotte, N.C.
On the men's side, Zachary Owens was the top runner for the Highland Cavaliers finishing in 93rd with a time of 32:06.1. Right behind him was teammate Peyton Salyer finishing with a time of 32:13.4. In 95th, Nick DeBoard finished with a time of 33:12.7. Chase Templeton trailed in 98th place with a time of 34:22.9, and newcomer Quinlan Turner finished off the effort with a time of 40:54.2 to put him in 100th place.
Wingate was able to take the crown in the men's 8K race, with their best runners Felix Nadeborn and Bastian Mrochen finishing in second and third, respectively. Queens University of Charlotte runner Jan Lukas Becker took the first place spot with a time of 23:50.5.
On the women's side, Haley Sykes took the top time for the Cavs with a time of 26:00.4, putting her in 64th place on the day. Anna Kriebel followed behind Sykes with a time of 26:23.9. In 74th place, sister Kaley Sykes ended the race with a time of 27:22.8. Isabella Mullins gave the Cavs a 79th place finish with a time of 27:48.7, teammate Lexie Rhoton finished with a 29:36.2 time, and Brook Wheatley rounded out the team with a time of 36:06.8.
Wingate also took the W in the women's 6K race, with top runner Lara Orrock finishing in first place with a time of 20:52.3.
