UVA Wise Travels to Florida for a Pair of Games

WISE – Head coach Meghan Dennehy's squad will take a break from South Atlantic Conference play this week as the Cavaliers travel to Florida for a pair of contests. UVA Wise will face Palm Beach Atlantic University Monday evening before taking on Lynn University Wednesday.

About UVA Wise 
 
- UVA Wise opened the SAC slate of their schedule Friday night as the Cavs fell to Lenoir-Rhyne University 22-11 on the road.

- Senior Ashley Wells posted a team-high four goals in the loss to the Bears while freshman Kaila Lacey found the back of the net twice for the Cavs.

- Junior Riley Fenster led the team with her three ground balls and three caused turnovers and added four draw controls against Lenoir-Rhyne. Senior Jesse French (5) and sophomore Ellie Earnshaw (5) combined for 10 draw controls in the road loss. Senior Elsa Girardo tallied eight saves as she fell to 2-2 on the season.

- Wells and sophomore Caroline Earnshaw are each posting double-digit goals to start the season. Earnshaw leads with 15 while Wells follows with 13 goals. Earnshaw is also registering a team-high 24 draw controls.

- The Cavs will stay on the road following their Florida trip, jumping back into league play at Mars Hill University next Wednesday, March 18. First draw is slated for 3 p.m.
 

Notes on Palm Beach Atlantic University

- In the program's third year, head coach Jayson Schmidt's team is currently 3-3 to start the campaign after being selected to finish eighth in the Sunshine State Conference preseason coaches poll. The team most recently picked up a 16-13 home win against Mars Hill University Saturday night.

- Palm Beach Atlantic has totaled 92 goals and 44 assists so far this season. The Sailfish have picked up 113 ground balls and won 101 draw controls.

- Palm Beach Atlantic has four players who have registered double-digit goals this campaign, led by Grace Bartlinski who has 19 followed by sophomore Anna Laskaris (17), sophomore Kiki Cinotti (14), and junior Kate LeBlanc (12).

- Cinotti's 24 assists lead the Sailfish while Laskaris, junior Lindsey Heffler, and sophomore goalie Abigal Nehring have each picked up 13 ground balls.

- Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Smith is boasting a team-high 23 draw controls while Laskaris has notched 18 and Heffler has added 15 draw controls this season.

- Palm Beach Atlantic will play three more at home after Monday's matchup with Southern Wesleyan up first Wednesday for a 7 p.m. draw.

Notes on Lynn University

 - Inaugural head coach Mindy Richmond is at the helm in the program's first season of competition at Lynn University. Coach Richmond's squad was selected to finish one spot above Palm Beach Atlantic in the Sunshine State Conference, falling in at seventh place in the preseason coaches' poll.

- The Fighting Knights currently hold a 2-3 overall mark and will host Mars Hill University Monday at 6 p.m. prior to Wednesday's game against UVA Wise.

- Through five games, Lynn has accumulated 68 goals and 26 assists. Freshman Delaney Popella leads the team with 20 goals while sophomore Cailyn Doyle has added 13 and freshman Danielle Farinas has recorded 11 goals.

- Popella (10) and freshman Victoria Wysocki-Christ (18) lead the Fighting Knights in ground ball pickups while Popella and Doyle have each won a team-leading 23 draw controls.

- Lynn will play three more games at home to wrap up March. Coach Richmond's team will face American International College at 11 a.m. next Sunday, March 15.

 Series History 

- This is the first time UVA Wise has played Palm Beach Atlantic University and Lynn University.
