WISE – The rain came down for most of the game, but in the end it was Newberry who washed out the Highland Cavaliers' conference championship hopes and ended their season as they scored two goals in the fourth quarter and kept UVA Wise out of the goal over that period as they won 12-10 Saturday afternoon.
The loss ends UVA Wise's season at 13-5 overall and 7-3 in South Atlantic Conference play. The 13 wins tie for the second most in a season in school history with the 2019 team and the 7-3 SAC record is best since the 2021 team also went 7-3 and only trails the 2019 squad's 9-1 Mountain East Conference record for best conference record ever.
This is the third straight season the two teams have met in the SAC Tournament, with the Wolves winning all three.
It also ends the careers of seven special seniors who all left their mark on the program.
