Box Score 2 WISE - - The softball team at UVA Wise flexed its muscles in a big way Wednesday as the Cavaliers outscored Bluefield State 17-to-1 in a doubleheader sweep of the Blues at Cavalier Field. UVA Wise took game one 8-0 before sweeping the twin bill with a 9-1 triumph.
Game one saw freshman McKenna Falwell toss a complete game one hit shutout as the right-hander fanned 12 over five innings of work in the run-rule victory.
UVA Wise (8-10) third baseman Kaylee Jones had a big game at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Jones' biggest blow of the game when her three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning ended the contest by way of mercy rule.
Game two saw Nikki Smith, Casey Chambers and Jones all line doubles as the trio of Sydney Collins, Rachel Lapallo and Kailin Spencer combined to twirl a one-hitter.
Jessi Foster lined a solo homer for the Blues for their only run of the day.
Next up, UVA Wise will welcome Tusculum to Cavalier Field Thursday for the team's conference opener. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
