About UVA Wise
UVA Wise will look to halt a four-game losing streak at the Bearcat Round Robin this weekend. Junior
Kaylee Jones has been on fire to start the season. The infielder is hitting .514 while slugging .595 through the season's first 12 games. Jones has homered in consecutive games and is tied with
Alexis Miles for the team lead with four homers.
Kailey Huffman has been hot at the plate too, the junior is in the midst of a six-game hitting streak that has seen her average rise to .381. During the hitting streak, Huffman is 7-for-16 with a double.
In the circle, senior
Raychel Lapallo and freshman
McKenna Falwell both have ERA's below 2.50. Lapallo has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any of her first five appearances while Falwell has struck out 38 hitters in her first 34 innings of collegiate work.
Notes on Emmanuel
Emmanuel is 5-5 through the season's first 10 games and enters the weekend on a three-game winning streak. The Lions have had no problem scoring runs, averaging 7.1 runs per game as six players are hitting .375 or better. As a team, Emmanuel is hitting .317.
Notes on Walsh (Ohio)
In what will be a battle of Cavaliers when Walsh takes on UVA Wise, the Cavaliers from Ohio have played just two games thus far winning both against Glenville State College by identical scores of 7-5.
Walsh is looking to rebound from a 9-37 record in 2019 that saw the program lose its final seven games of the year.
Notes on Lander
The Bearcasts are 9-2-1 to start the year with their two losses coming to a pair of South Atlantic Conference schools. Lander fell 10-1 to Carson Newman on Feb. 15 before splitting a doubleheader with Lenoir-Rhyne last weekend.
The team is sporting a .377 batting average while also holding a .432 on base percentage. Sophomore infielder Morgan Watson is hitting .400 with four doubles, two homers and 19 RBI through the first 12 games. Â
