About UVA Wise
- UVA Wise opened the 2020 campaign this past Friday with a season-opening victory over North Greenville University, 16-11, at Carl Smith Stadium.
- Sophomores Katie Allen and Caroline Earnshaw each totaled four goals in the win while Earnshaw also recorded a team-high seven draw controls.
- Freshmen Kaila Lacey and Sydney Trask each notched their first career goal. Trask finished with two goals in the win while Lacey also registered her first career assist.
- Sophomore Kameryn Darrington (6), junior Erin Smith (5), and senior Jesse French (5) combined for 16 of the Cavs 28 ground balls. Smith also posted a team-high four caused turnovers while Darrington added three.
- French and sophomore Ellie Earnshaw both posted two goals while senior Ashley Wells rounded out the scoring for UVA Wise with a goal. French totaled a team-high five points as she added three assists.
- Senior Elsa Girardo and freshman Jordan Edwards split time between the posts for the Cavs as Girardo tallied four saves and gained her first win of the season. Edwards' seven saves in her debut earned her South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.
- UVA Wise will stay on the road for another non-conference game against Lee University next Friday at 6 p.m.
Notes on University of Charleston
- First-year head coach Akasha Kasper's Golden Eagles will host the Cavaliers Friday afternoon following the team's season opening win over Chowan University, 12-6, last Saturday.
- The University of Charleston is coming off of a 5-12 campaign, 3-7 in the Mountain East Conference, as the team was selected to finish third in the league.
- In the Golden Eagles win over Chowan, three players scored three goals in seniors Rachel Kerwin, Elishia Davis, and Emma Renda.
- Freshman Destiny Jackson posted a team-high seven ground balls and six caused turnovers as she also added a goal.
- In the season opener, Charleston totaled 17 caused turnovers, 26 ground balls, and five draw controls as senior goalie Kyra Tye earned her first win of the campaign registering seven saves in 30 minutes in the net.
- The Golden Eagles will stay home to face Thomas More University next Wednesday, Feb. 26, for a 7 p.m. draw.

- UVA Wise leads the all-time series against the University of Charleston, 6-0, with the Cavs posting a 13-8 win over the Golden Eagles when the two teams last met in the first round of the MEC Tournament last year.
